Every year, the Boston College Center for Corporate Citizenship gathers experts from around the world for our International Corporate Citizenship Conference. This 2.5 day event is packed full of inspiring speakers, networking opportunities, and hands-on workshops that offer the insight and guidance to help you tackle environmental, social, and governance issues. While attendees find value in all of the activities, many find the most in-depth, actionable discussion to take place during our 26 breakout sessions. In these sessions, a panel of distinguished CSR leaders dives into a specific topic—offering real world examples of successes and challenges and fielding questions from the audience. Because the Conference admits corporate citizenship practitioners only, attendees engage in honest dialogue and free discussion.

Corporate citizenship is an enterprise-wide undertaking—not simply the responsibility of one person or a single department, so effective corporate citizenship practitioners must be master collaborators. For many, one of the most important internal relationships is the one they share with the communications and marketing department.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the founding of the Boston College Center for Corporate Citizenship. The world is a very different place than it was 30 years ago. When the Center was established in 1985 with just 35 people from 35 companies connecting to our mission to help companies know more, do more, and achieve more with their environmental, social, and governance investments, debate about the human contributions to climate change had just begun in earnest and institutionalized corporate philanthropy and employee volunteer programs were new practices.
The final day of the 2015 International Corporate Citizenship Conference was rich with inspiration and ideas, as attendees solidified connections, learned from each other and from experts in the field, and were introduced to next year’s Conference sponsor—UPS—during the event’s closing session.
With an agenda packed from dawn to dusk, day two of the 2015 International Corporate Citizenship Conference was full of learning and networking—we even managed to network while getting some exercise! Highlights included an in-depth one-on-one with Dell Chairman and CEO Michael Dell, an on-site volunteer project benefiting Austin middle-schoolers, and more than 15 other sessions tackling subjects ranging from engaging veterans to navigating the reporting landscape.
The first day of the 2015 International Corporate Citizenship Conference was packed with insights, discussion, and collaboration, as CSR professionals from around the world came together to network, share stories, and learn from each other—and from experts in the field. While it was a day of growth and exploration, it was also a day of celebration, as UPS and Mary Kay were both awarded the top prize for the 2015 International Corporate Citizenship Film Festival.
With submissions from 58 companies and more than 40,000 individuals casting votes, this year’s International Corporate Citizenship Film Festival attracted an enormous amount of attention to stories of successful corporate citizenship programs. Now the voting has closed and the results are in. Each finalist video, based on popular vote, offers a unique perspective, touching on important issues within both the CSR field and our communities.
We’ve been on the road extensively and have met with executives from across North America, Latin America, Asia, and Europe over this past year. Consistent with the findings in our 2012 State of Corporate Citizenship research report that will arrive in members’ inboxes this month, we continue to see evidence that business leaders recognize that corporate citizenship delivers real business results. This fifth biennial survey of the attitudes and commitments of business executives toward corporate citizenship will be available to members in print and via our website as well as in an executive summary PowerPoint presentation. Highlights of the report will be available to non-members in a PowerPoint presentation on our website.
